South Lawn (White House)

Located south of the White House in Washington, D.C., the South Lawn is an important part of the official residence of the President of the United States. It is bordered by East Executive Drive and the Treasury Building to the east, West Executive Drive and the Old Executive Office to the west, and South Executive Drive and the Ellipse public lawn to the south. Although the South Lawn was open to the public in the past, access is currently restricted. The lawn serves as a venue for formal ceremonies, such as state receptions, and informal events, including the annual Egg Roll Contest and Staff Barbecue. It is also the landing and takeoff point for the presidential helicopter, Marine One.
